Session Description, Chasing Threat Actors with AI

As cyber threats grow in scale and complexity, security teams increasingly turn to artificial intelligence for help sifting through vast amounts of logs and telemetry. But how effective is AI, really, at catching sophisticated threat actors? Drawing on both practical experience and the latest research this talk takes a candid look at the promise and reality of AI in security operations. We’ll examine what actually works in the field, the challenges teams face in applying AI, and where human expertise remains irreplaceable. Attendees will leave with an honest understanding of AI’s strengths, blind spots, and how to leverage both machine and human intelligence to stay ahead of adversaries.

Audience Takeaways:

  1. Real-World Effectiveness: What AI techniques actually deliver value in detecting and investigating real cyber threats, and which are mostly hype.

  2. Pitfalls and Limitations: Common challenges and blind spots encountered when applying AI to security data like logs and telemetry, and strategies to avoid them.

  3. Human + Machine Synergy: How to blend AI with human intuition and expertise for a more resilient and effective threat-hunting approach.
