Dr. Esther Fee Reinhardt

Dr. Esther Fee Reinhardt is a leading expert at the intersection of artificial intelligence and sound. Her research centers on timbre analysis in audio signals, leveraging feature-based approaches and optimized artificial neural networks to advance the field of music information retrieval and audio classification.

Dr. Reinhardt’s insights into creativity, both human and artificial, have been featured in talks and podcasts, where she critically examines the capabilities and limitations of AI in replicating the depth and emotional resonance of human artistic expression.

Dr. Reinhardt's session is streaming live from Neustadt an der Aisch, Bavaria, Germany during the 24 hour Artificial (Un)Intelligence Conference. 100+ sessions. No sales pitches, no marketing.

Session Description, Creativity and AI

With genAI, the oversupply of "creative" things and services is even more obvious than it was before. Who knows, maybe in a few months we'll be able to promote a customized TV series with a few keywords. But will we want to watch it for 15 hours?

The introduction of the “Minimal Emotion Needed (”MEN-“) Value” is a step towards assessing which tasks will find a good AI replacement and which, at their core, cannot be performed satisfactorily without a human counterpart and why.

Session Takeways

  • The MEN-value indicates how beneficial it is to let AI do a certain job

  • Devote yourself only to things created with devotion

  • Use your currencies wisely

About Dr. Esther Fee Reinhardt

Dr. Esther Fee Reinhardt is a leading expert at the intersection of artificial intelligence and sound. She holds degrees in computer science and musicology from the Julius-Maximilians-University in Würzburg and earned her PhD at the International Audio Laboratories Erlangen-a joint institution of Fraunhofer IIS and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU). Her research centers on timbre analysis in audio signals, leveraging feature-based approaches and optimized artificial neural networks to advance the field of music information retrieval and audio classification.

Beyond her technical work, Dr. Reinhardt is active as an improvisation coach and composer, deeply engaged with the nature of human creativity. She explores the relationship between human creative processes and the mechanisms underlying generative and "hypothetically creative" AI systems. Her recent projects include “Chromatone,” an AI-driven system inspired by her own synesthesia, which translates colors into music, exemplifying her commitment to bridging art and science.

Dr. Reinhardt’s insights into creativity, both human and artificial, have been featured in talks and podcasts, where she critically examines the capabilities and limitations of AI in replicating the depth and emotional resonance of human artistic expression.
